Discover District 36 Wine Bar & Grille

When I first stepped into District 36 Wine Bar & Grille at 1375 SW Vintage Pkwy, Ankeny, IA 50023, United States, I immediately noticed the warm and inviting atmosphere that made it feel like a neighborhood gem rather than just another dining spot. The interior blends rustic charm with contemporary touches, creating a perfect setting for both casual dinners and special celebrations. The staff greeted us with genuine smiles, showing a level of attentiveness that made the entire experience seamless from start to finish.

One of the standout aspects of this wine bar and grille is its menu, which balances classic comfort foods with unique, chef-inspired dishes. For instance, their hand-tossed flatbreads come loaded with fresh ingredients, from creamy goat cheese to locally sourced vegetables, while their signature burgers are cooked to perfection with juicy patties and creative toppings. I’ve personally tried their grilled salmon, which was seasoned perfectly and paired with a light lemon-dill sauce-a dish that perfectly exemplifies their attention to flavor and presentation. Many reviews online highlight the consistency in food quality, and after multiple visits, I can confirm that they rarely disappoint.

The beverage selection at District 36 is another area where their expertise shines. Their wine list is thoughtfully curated, featuring a range of reds, whites, and sparkling options from both domestic and international vineyards. During one visit, a sommelier recommended a bold Cabernet Sauvignon that paired beautifully with the filet mignon I ordered. According to industry research, wine bars that provide knowledgeable recommendations tend to increase customer satisfaction by over 30%, and this experience perfectly aligns with those findings. For those who prefer cocktails, their mixologists craft drinks with precision, using fresh ingredients and balanced flavors that rival many high-end lounges.

District 36 Wine Bar & Grille also pays close attention to detail in its service. From timely order delivery to accommodating dietary preferences, the team demonstrates professional hospitality that makes every guest feel valued. On one occasion, a friend requested a gluten-free alternative, and the kitchen not only fulfilled the request but also offered suggestions for complementary dishes. This level of care is what sets them apart from many local competitors.

The location at 1375 SW Vintage Pkwy provides easy access and ample parking, which is ideal for families, groups, or anyone planning a casual evening out. The area itself has become a hub for dining and entertainment, making District 36 a reliable choice for both regular visits and spontaneous stops. Community engagement is another plus; they often host wine tasting events and seasonal specials that attract both locals and visitors. A study of customer behavior in midwestern dining establishments shows that interactive events significantly boost repeat visits, and District 36 seems to embrace this trend effectively.

What impresses me most is the consistency between the reviews I’ve read and my own experiences. Many patrons praise not only the food and drinks but also the relaxed ambiance that makes it easy to linger over a meal. The combination of fresh ingredients, well-prepared dishes, and attentive service shows a deep understanding of what diners in Ankeny truly appreciate. Experts in hospitality often emphasize the importance of atmosphere and staff engagement in driving positive reviews, and this venue seems to have mastered both.

Visiting District 36 Wine Bar & Grille feels like discovering a spot where passion for food and hospitality meets thoughtful curation of wines and cocktails. Every meal offers an opportunity to experience creative culinary techniques, attentive service, and a welcoming environment that keeps people coming back. Whether you’re stopping by for a quick dinner, a celebratory night out, or one of their seasonal events, it’s clear that this wine bar and grille delivers a consistently satisfying experience rooted in quality, expertise, and genuine care.

  • This restaurant is huge (and comes with a big parking lot). We were seated immediately on a Friday evening without a reservation. Our server Jay was so kind, personable, and attentive. He checked in frequently but was not overbearing. We ordered: • Kung Pao Calamari — it was OK! I wish that the sauce came on the side because it did seem a little soggy (3.5/5) • Prime Rib ($38) — comes with a side & soup/salad! It was SO thick and cooked just to my liking. It did come out “room temp” but I think it’s because we ordered all our food at once, so that was our mistake. Definitely something to consider though! came with such delicious sauces on the side. • Rib Eye ($32) — cooked just to my bf’s liking. He thought it was delicious & didn’t leave a single bite behind. • Candy Bar Pie — Jay recommended this to us and it was delicious. It was very sweet and the Oreo crust was my favorite part!! Overall, we had a great experience. They have a very large food & drink menu, I think that anyone can find something to eat here. We will definitely come back in the future.

  • We had a great experience, the gentleman at the host stand was very friendly and found us a table very quickly (already a better experience than when walked into their neighbors establishment). Our server Alexis was amazing! She had a lot on her hands with our crazy family! Our food was great, and dinner ended with all of our 5 kids giving our server a hug. I am willing to guess it was a night she won't soon forget.

  • We thoroughly enjoy District 36 and visited here as the beginning of our Adult prom. I enjoy the Monday Night Special - it's a four-course meal (I recommend the Steak de Burgo) for two and includes a bottle of wine. Happy hour is generous with reduced priced appetizers and drinks. District 36 is a nice place to relax and dine with your significant other. They have a nice banquet room as well as their spacious, cozy dining room. I highly recommend District 36.

  • I went here with a large group for a family meal. The wait staff was very helpful and I was very impressed with the menu selections. A little something for everyone! Obviously they have an extensive wine list. I highly recommend the steak. They cook them to perfection. It is money well spent. They are very tender and flavorful. Would recommend. (Was super pleased. They had a nice large parking lot as well.)

  • Preference that I did pick up so I can't comment on atmosphere or table service. To start STAFF: Those that I did interact with were great, friendly, accommodating, and leaving with a smile is a perfect way to say thank you and bye. As my family has allergies I called to place the order over the phone. The woman who took my order sounded nice, careful with the details she wrote down, was up front that there are the allergens in the kitchen but she let the chef know and they will take precautions. I felt comfortable with her response. When I passed out the food at home the dishes had the specific allergies of that person for everyone to be mindful. That is a level of service. There are still far too many restaurants that don't understand what cross-contamination means and some simply measures that can be put in place to make a big difference. I was impressed. If I knew the woman's name I would give a big shout out to her. This is worth 5 stars. FOOD: I was disappointed in the steak. The medium well filet was fine but my medium rare filet was a little over cooked. No red juice coming out when I cut the middle and not as tender as I expected for a filet. Unfortunately it is a common mistake when you order medium-rare from a place other than a steak house, however with the prices being charged and how they advertise their steak I expected more. My kid go their burger and it was fine, tasted good, good portion size. The asparagus should have been cooked a minute or two longer but overall it was good. The baked potato was good. Sadly my purpose for going was the steak as my first choice restaurant was closed and I needed to stay in the Ankeny area. If the meat is good quality a little bit of salt and pepper does the trick for a medium rare steak. I understand now why they normally add toppings, I had requested without. (Also the desserts that have a heavy price tag to them weren't good-chocolate cake and key lime pie.) For a take-out bill (w/tip), no drinks or apps, for 3 people I expected a little more for a dinner that cost me over $160. This is worth 3 stars. I give 4 stars due to the staff and hope that maybe their other things, like their pizza, are good on the menu. I think the restaurant has potential but might want to up the food quality and either look into the process of making the food or potentially the equipment being used needing some updates. I did hear the word "Fire" coming from the kitchen twice while waiting for my order. It was a tad concerning.

  • OMG the food is out of this world! Service was fantastic and my server made great recommendations. Had the seafood bisque and Brazilian Bass with asparagus. Plus the house wine was great! Sat on the patio and had a great view of Venus as it was rising at sunset.

  • There was a group of 3 couples that were wanting to go somewhere for Valentine's Day together for a nice night out. We wanted something different than what we usually have I was looking online and reading reviews and looking over menus and this place looked like the most perfect place to have a nice dinner When we arrived their entire lobby was full of people waiting to be seated. Some had reservations, some did not. We did and fortunately enough we didn't have to wait to long. It is in a very good, easily accessible area and there is plenty of parking there. The restaurant was super nice, pleasant smell and clean. The host was nice and he was running around super busy and cleaning off tables and wiping menus down and greeting everyone. We got seated at our table and Rylee came over and introduced himself as our server and he was such a joy!!! We all truly enjoyed hi. As our server. He didn't check to many times on us, just the right amount of times and his service was top notch. We will definitely go back again!!
